Working with Depression

Depression can feel heavy, exhausting, and isolating. It can affect how you think, how you feel, how you sleep, how you work, and how you relate to others. You might feel stuck in low mood, lose interest in things you once enjoyed, struggle with motivation, or find it difficult to explain to others what you’re going through.

You don’t have to face this alone.

I offer a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly about what you’re experiencing, at your own pace, without judgement or pressure. Together, we can begin to understand what your depression feels like for you and gently explore ways to help you feel more in control and more connected to yourself and the world around you.

How Depression Can Show Up

Depression can look different for everyone, but you may be experiencing:

  • Persistent low mood or emptiness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in daily life
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or hopelessness
  • Withdrawing from others
  • Feeling overwhelmed by even small tasks

These experiences can be frightening, frustrating, and deeply lonely. Therapy offers a space where these feelings can be understood rather than pushed aside.

How Counselling Can Help

In our sessions, we will not simply focus on “fixing” symptoms. Instead, we will work to understand:

  • What may be contributing to how you feel
  • Patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviours
  • The impact of past experiences and current pressures
  • How depression has affected your sense of self
  • Practical ways to gently rebuild motivation, routine, and hope

You will be met with patience, empathy, and respect. There is no expectation to have the right words or to make quick progress. Change often begins with being heard and understood.

A Space to Be Heard

Many people with depression feel misunderstood or judged. In counselling, you are free to speak honestly about your thoughts and feelings without fear of being dismissed. Whether your depression feels recent or something you’ve lived with for years, your experience matters.

Working at Your Pace

There is no set path or timetable. Some sessions may focus on understanding the weight you’re carrying. Others may gently explore new ways of coping and thinking. We move at a pace that feels manageable and safe for you.

Taking the First Step

Reaching out for help when you’re feeling low can be incredibly difficult. If you’re reading this and wondering whether counselling could help, that in itself is an important step.

You deserve support, understanding, and a place where you don’t have to pretend you’re okay.

If you would like to talk about how we can work together, you’re welcome to get in touch.
